hello, yes, the only way for now to update, install opc is to download it from our download section after logging in to our site. the joomla's live update does not yet work and we need to find a way how to make it available only for our customers and not for a generic public per a known URL.
opc updates are :
- needed when you update your virtuemart to a newer version then the opc is made for
- when there is a critical update in joomla that can break 3rd party code (such as update from joomla prior 3.8 to joomla 3.8+ )
- when we discover a bug in one of the features that are used by your configuration
- when you would like to use, try or update our additional extensions such as currently our new "opc_captcha" which can disable form submission per GeoIP (maxmind database) or RBL DNS checks
