Display more shipping options on demand

We are currently having issues with our checkout process because the FedEx calculations can take some time to be processed through FedEx's web services.
We are about to release flat-rate shipping to help overcome this. However, we would like to keep a 3-day and overnight option to be calculated via FedEx. This will be used by a minority of our customer base and as such we would like to enable these options only after a customer has clicked on a link to explicitly show these options.

Is this something that you would be interested in helping us implement? Thank you

hello marc, there is a feature "customer initialized shipping" at the shipping tab which does exactly what you are looking for and is exactly made for such shipping methods like ups, usps or fedex.

the largest problem with fedex is that it requires a very exact address match towards their database which may cause lot's abandoned carts especially in case of any typo in the city, street of zip code.

you also may want to make sure that "delayed shipping" option is enabled which calls the VM's shipping functionality only after the rendering of the checkout form. this will make the display of the cart much faster when using API methods.
